Adventures in Housekeeping: Accountability

The Set-up:

My husband comes home tonight for the weekend! As I mentioned in my last post, he’s away for several weeks in a row — but he does come home on the weekends. He will be here early in the morning.

The Problem:

My house is a pigsty! I really let it go while he’s been gone.

The Plan:

Clean up at bedtime, so that he will be shocked and surprised to come home to a spotless home!

The Foil:

It’s 11pm, and I just got the baby down, I’m tired and I want to go to bed.

The New Plan:

Publicly embarrass myself by posting this here, and then I’ll be shamed into cleaning up, if only so that I don’t look like the kind of wife and mother who can’t keep up with the laundry and feeds her kids cereal for dinner when her husband’s away. (One night! I only did it one night out of the last few weeks!)

The Disclaimer:

My husband is a wonderful man, and does not expect me to fully keep up my end in his absence. He’ll just be glad that I took out the garbage.

The Cliffhanger:

Will the godly desire to pleasantly surprise my husband (and this public accountability) overcome the fleshly desire to just get some sleep already? The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak! Stay tuned on Monday to see which will prevail!

The Denouement:

Well, I guess it halfway worked. I spent a quick half hour rushing around making the place halfway decent before collapsing in bed. It looked good coming in the front door, and the kitchen was done. Laundry? Maybe not so much.

Christian wife and homeschooling mother of five children, ages 2 through 10 years. Recently diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos. Trusting in Jesus for His plan for my life, and for my family. He was gracious to save my husband and myself 6 and 7 years ago, respectively. And really, He saved me just in time. Because how could I ever have handled this illness without Him?
